1998 Negly, Porte du Ciel, Languedoc, France: 92

Date: Mon Oct 24, 2005 9:31 pm  Author: Wilfried

1998 Negly, Porte du Ciel, Languedoc, France: Dark purple with violet hue, clear, fat tears, tints the glass, some very fine floating sediment. Very dark intense fruit, soy sauce, opulent with a hint of cat pee. Very full body, dense dark lush fruit, slightly jammy, some if low acidity, soft tannins, not fat but a bit hot. Long finish, sweet dark fruit, smoky persistent tannins. This wine has on release always a tendency of being fat and hot and while it may be very impressive I don't like it very much despite an "objective" high score. A friend told me that the fatness goes away with age. To but only some degree this is true - 14.9% vol alc is simply too much for my taste. Score: 50 + 5 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 92. Not blind. Decanted shortly before tasting. Small ISO tasting glass. Bottle count reduced by one

Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 91. Not blind. Not decanted. Small ISO standard tasting glass. Bottle count reduced by one
