Carnuntum Experience 2006:
Vergleichende Weinverkostuing im Rahmen des Drei-Tage-Fests rund um die Weine
der Region vom 25. bis 27. August 2006

"Wetten, dass es nicht
ganz so eindeutig ist, wenn große Burgunder von Armand Rousseaux, Dugat Py oder
der Domaine de la Romanée Conti in einer Blindverkostung neben ausgesuchten
Blaufränkisch aus Carnuntum & Co serviert werden? Das Tasting ist ein Credo
an die klassische österreichische Sorte. Die insgesamt zehn Weine wählt Dirk van
der Niepoort aus, und er kommentiert sie auch. Gerhard Meixner serviert dazu
vier klassische, sehr regionale Gerichte.

Prellenkirchen hat eine
lange Tradition als Blaufränkisch-Weinbauregion mit etwas unglücklichem
Verlauf, da die Rebfläche mittlerweile von rund 1000 ha auf 130 ha
bewirtschaftete Fläche zurückgegangen ist. Zwischendurch haben die lokalen
Winzer versucht, sich an neue Trends wie Weißwein und internationale
Rotweinsorten anzupassen, waren aber jeweils zu spät dran und haben den Markt
verpaßt. Nun beginnt wieder eine Phase der Besinnung auf die ursprüngliche
Stärke der Region (Blaufränkisch).
Interessanter Abend mit dem
Ehepaar Niepoort/Muhr (haben in Prellenkirchen ca. 3 ha am Spitzerberg gekauft
und bewirtschaften das nun mit einem lokalen Weinmacher) als Gastgeber und ca.
25 Gästen aus der Wein- und Gastronomieszene. Die Weine (pro Wein 2 Flaschen
waren gut (in Qualität und Verfassung) ausgesucht, wurden einige Stunden vor
der Verkostung geöffnet, aber nicht dekantiert. Kein einziger Kork, eine
Flasche war im Rahmen normaler Flaschenvariation ev. minimal beeinträchtigt. Serviert
wurde in Wine Star Burgundergläsern in 5 Flights mit je einem Burgunder und
einem Blaufränkischen (nur das war bekannt, die Verkostung war daher doppelt
blind), die nach der Verkostung von Dirk Niepoort vergleichend kommentiert
wurden.

2004 Perrot-Minot, La Richamone
VV, NSG 1er Cru, Cote d'Or, Burgundy, France: 90
Optic:
Light and bright ruby, core purple, fat tears.
Bouquet:
Restrained nose, some oak, acidic raspberries, young, hint of celery.
Taste:
Slim body, sweet-sour drops, robust acidity, silky tannins. Long finish, highly
mouth impregnating silky tannins.
Overall:
Burgundy typicity quite low.
Score:
50 + 3 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score
of 90.
2002 Toni Hartl, Leithaberg,
Blaufraenkisch, Neusiedlersee-Huegelland, Burgenland, Austria: 88
Optic:
Medium ruby, dense, touch violet, fat tears.
Bouquet:
Velvety red fruity nose, some roasted aromas, mocha, toast.
Taste:
Medium body, slightly rustic fruit and acidity, strong tannins. Medium finish,
velvety tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall:
Not great but not without appeal.

Optic:
Brilliant garnet, fat tears.
Bouquet:
Discreet small stink, cool, resinous.
Taste:
Medium to slim body, intense red fruity acidity, robust bit coarse tannins.
Long finish, very long aftertaste after silky peppery tannins.
Overall:
Nice village wine.
Score:

Optic:
Dark garnet, fat tears.
Bouquet:
Dark fruit in the nose, liquor touch.
Taste:
Medium body, palate coating slightly chemical touch, cool dark fruit, bit
acidic, hint of toast. Medium finish, long aftertaste with coarse acidic
tannins.
Overall:
In total a bit rustic.
Score:

2003

Optic:
Light garnet, brilliant, very fat tears.
Bouquet:
Fine Burgundy stink, acidic red fruit, stimulating.
Taste:
Slim body, unobtrusive acidity, warming tannins, sweet touch, roasted aromas.
Medium finish, persistent sweet-velvety tannins in the aftertaste, burning
black pepper.
Overall:
For a 2003 Burgundy quite decent.

Optic:
Dark purple, clear, dense.
Bouquet:
Sweet dark acidic fruit, slightly cooked.
Taste:
Plump body, rather dense, acidic dark fruit, slightly rustic, coarse tannins.
Long finish, sweet-sour tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall:
Bit rustic but of interest.
Score:

Optic:
Very light garnet, fat tears, small bubbles in the rim.
Bouquet:
Very decent Burgundy stink, velvety, quite interesting nose.
Taste:
Slim body, rather very acidic, hint of red fruit, tannins bit coarse. Medium
finish, coarse acidic tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall:
Great nose, else quite acidic - bit too much for my taste.
Score:

2004 Muhr & Niepoort,
Spitzerberg, Blaufraenkisch, Prellenkirchen, Carnuntum, Austria: 88
Optic:
Brilliant ruby, light rim.
Bouquet:
Elderberry fruit, slightly cooked.
Taste:
Medium body, intense sweet-sour dark red fruit, slightly bitter tannins. Long
finish, persistent bit coarse velvety tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall:
Not great, but wine of interest.
Score:

Faiveley, Mazis-Chambertin, Grand Cru, Cote d'Or, Burgundy, France: 85
Optic:
Light garnet, clear, fat tears.
Bouquet:
Smooth velvety nose, tad of stink, very restrained - nearly no nose at all.
Taste:
Medium body, quite acidic, low in fruit, robust but bit coarse tannins. Medium
finish, slightly bitter tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall:
Simple wine of low interest, especially nose.
Score:
50 + 3 for optic + 11 for bouquet + 15 for taste + 6 for overall = total score
of 85.
2004 Uwe Schiefer, Reihburg,
Blaufraenkisch, Eisenberg, Südburgenland, Austria: 96
Optic:
Very dark purple, fat tears.
Bouquet:
Sweet perfume after apricots, but not cooked, hint of fermentation aromas.
Taste:
Plump body, robust acidic grip, beautiful dark fruit, robust tannins. Very long
finish, massive mouth impregnating tannins.
Overall:
Beautiful wine.
Score:

of 96.
2002 Uwe Schiefer, Reihburg,
Blaufraenkisch, Eisenberg, Südburgenland, Austria: 90
Optic:
Brilliant purple, fat tears.
Bouquet:
Dark concentrated fruit, slightly cooked, touch cilantro.
Taste:
Plump body, sweet dark fruit, low acidity, soft tannins. Medium finish, coarse
velvety tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall:
Bit too concentrated and cooked for my taste.

Insgesamt ein sehr entspannter
und netter Event.
