Verkostungsnotiz Mai 2006: Zwischendurch

 

 

 


1999 Stoppa, Cabernet Sauvignon, Colli Piacentini, Emilia-Romagna, Italy:
Optic: Dark ruby, black core, fat tears, some baked sediment.
Bouquet: Sweet mushrooms, dark red fruit, intense.
Taste: Medium body, nice dark red fruit, clean, good acidity well integrated, silky tannins, bit hot. Long finish, fine silky persistent tannins, bit hot in the aftertaste.
Overall: Has lost the baby fat but yet not gained the charm of the juvenile.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 91.
Not blind. Decanted shortly before tasting. Small ISO standard tasting glass.


 


2003 Fritsch, Pinot Noir, Wagram - Donauland, Austria:
Optic: Light ruby, brilliant, fat tears.
Bouquet: Some red fruit and a bit of oak in the nose, no trace of Pinot Noir.
Taste: Medium body, some red fruit, rustic acidity, unobtrusive tannins. Medium long finish, hint of tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Certainly good enough for a picnic in the vineyard.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 87.
Not blind. Not decanted. Simple goblet glass.


 


2000 Laffitte-Teston, Vieilles Vignes, Madiran, France:
Optic: Dark purple, very fat tears, tints a bit the glass, heavy tartaric sediment.
Bouquet: Cool dark fruit, roots and herbs, moss, earth, leaves.
Taste: Medium full body, soft dark red fruit, silky acidity, bit coarse tannins, in total good balanced. Medium long finish, velvety tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Again an excellent wine for this price.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 91.
Not blind. Not decanted. ISO tasting glass.


 


2003 El Grifo, Lanzarote Tinto (Listan Negro), Cuatro meses en barrica (american and french oak), Lanzarote/Canarias, Spain:
Optic: Medium garnet, bright, light rim, small bubbles in the rim.
Bouquet: Vegetal barnyard hint, lard, some alcohol.
Taste: Medium to light body, low fruit, bit burning quality. Medium long finish, hot tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Not to drink stand alone but good enough to be consumed with your simple dinner or as a memory from past holidays.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 11 for bouquet + 15 for taste + 5 for overall = total score of 84.

1998 Ktima Kir-Yianni, Yianakohori (Xinomavro and Merlot), Naoussa, Hellas, Greece:
Optic: Medium garnet, light rim, bright, good viscosity, no sediment.
Bouquet: Dark red fruit, slightly animal note.
Taste: Medium body, bit rustic dark red fruit, crisp acidity, bit coarse tannins, hint of earth. Medium long finish, slightly sour rustic tannins.
Overall: Quite acceptable to go with your meal, not outstanding.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 87.

1990 Moccagatta, Bric Balin, Barbaresco, Piedmont, Italy:
Optic: Light garnet, orange note, light and bricky rim, fat tears, lots of floating sediment.
Bouquet: Overmature, marjoram, lovage.
Taste: Medium body, overmature, diluted soy sauce.
Overall: Over the hill.
Score: 50 + 2 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 14 for taste + 5 for overall = total score of 83.

1990 Rosi Schuster, Blaufränkisch Classic, Burgenland, Austria:
Optic: Medium ruby, light rim, nice tears.
Bouquet: Mature nose, some red fruit, very nice.
Taste: Rather slim body, crisp acidity, soft tannin structure, hint of dark red fruit. Medium long finish, soft velvety tannins and crisp acidity in the aftertaste.
Overall: Had to try this again. Not great but really nice.
Mature Blaufränkisch is rare.

2001 Rousseau, Clos St. Jacques, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru, Burgundy, France:
Optic: Light garnet, brilliant, dense tears. Bouquet:Classic Burgundy Pinot Noir nose, some red fruit, cool, silky.
Taste: Medium to slim body body, bit red fruit, fine crisp acidity, velvety tannins. Finish long, soft velvety aftertaste with red fruity acidity.
Overall: Again an example that Burgundy 2001 is already good to drink now.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 91.

2000 Weninger, Dürrau, Blaufränkisch, Burgenland, Austria:
Optic: Medium purple, fat tears, lots of tartaric sediment.
Bouquet: Velvety Nose, oaky vanilla, dark berries, quite nice.
Taste: Medium to medium full body, soft dark fruit, velvety tannins, bit smoky, good acidity. Medium to long finish, tannins bit mouth impregnating.
Overall: Certainly one of the top Blaufränkisch of Austria.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 92.
Not blind. Double decanted shortly before tasting. Small ISO standard tasting glass.


 


2004 Wieninger, Nußberg Alte Reben (Gemischter Satz), Wien, Austria:
Optic: Golden yellow, nice tears.
Bouquet: Very clean and somewhat exotic fruit.
Taste: Medium body, bit sweet, nice clean fruit, soft tannins. Medium long finish.
Overall: Gemischter Satz (= different varieties usually grown in one vineyard fermented together) is a very old tradition in Vienna and now already rather a speciality. Nice wine but not great.

2001 Kolheita de Ideias, Kolheita, Douro, Portugal:
Optic: Very dark purple, dense tears, tints the glass.
Bouquet: Dark nose, spices, dark fruit, hint of barnyard.
Taste: Rather full body, Vintage Port like dark fruit, opulent tannins, good acidity, well balanced. Long finish, dark fruit and velvety and bit bitter tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Have not seen any younger vintages of this impressive wine. How come?

1999 Tua Rita, Giusto di Notri, IGT, Tuscany, Italy:
Optic: Dark purple, fat tears, tartaric sediment.
Bouquet: Dark fruit, velvety, clean, soft.
Taste: Medium full body, soft dark fruit, nice acidity, velvety texture. Medium long finish, velvety fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Gives pleasure.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 92.

2000 Colinot, Les Mazelots (90% Pinot Noir, 10% Romain), Irancy, France:
Optic: Light and brilliant garnet, light rim, nice tears, no sediment.
Bouquet: Some dark red fruit, hint of barnyard.
Taste: Medium to light body, good acidity, bit of red fruit, bit coarse velvety tannins. Medium long finish, slightly coarse tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Had to try this again. Kind of generic Burgundy, simple, good value.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 88.

2000 Ktima Kir-Yianni, Rammista, Xinomavro, Imathia, Greece:
Optic: Medium ruby, clear, good viscosity.
Bouquet: Red fruit, bit rustic, hint of barnyard.
Taste: Medium body, some rustic red fruit, good acidity, velvety coarse tannins, seems a bit premature. Medium long finish.
Overall: Quite good match with stuffed squid, else not as good as I remember other bottles of this wine.

1990 Brumont, Montus Prestige, Tannat, Madiran, France:
Optic: Dark purple, dense tears, some tartaric sediment.
Bouquet: Soft and lush dark fruit, cool moss, roots.
Taste: Medium full body, soft dark fruit, dense velvety tannins, good acidity, good balance. Long finish, soft tannins and fruity acidity in the aftertaste.
Overall: As good as ever, nothing to add. Quite good match with fried minced lamb, fried green pea pods and pea puree.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 93.

1992 Les Cailloux, Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge, Rhone, France:
Optic: Medium garnet, brilliant, fat tears, tartaric sediment.
Bouquet: Animal hint of barnyard, mature sweet red fruit.
Taste: Medium body, animal touch, soft sweet red fruit, crisp acidity, rather soft tannins, good balance. Medium long finish, smooth persistent tannins, crisp fruity acidity in the aftertaste.
Overall: Again a good bottle. Quite versatile with food - surprisingly good even after a dessert of strawberries with cream.
