Optic: Medium ruby, brilliant.
Bouquet: Clean red fruit, animal touch.
Taste: Medium body, soft dark red fruit, low acidity, soft tannins. Medium long finish, soft fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Rather soft and elegant.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 89.

2003 Quinta do Crasto, Reserva Old Vines, Douro Tinto, Portugal: 91

Optic: Dark purple, fat tears.
Bouquet: Velvety phenolic touch, dark fruit, hint of volatile acidity.
Taste: Full body, concentrated dark fruit, good acidity, velvety tannins. Long finish, persistent fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Again a very nice bottle, good QPR.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 91.

1979 Malescot St. Exupery, Margaux, Bordeaux, France: 87

Optic: Light garnet with some brick, light rim, floating sediment.
Bouquet: Clean mature fruit, bit earthy.
Taste: Slim body, low in fruit, high in acidity, mellow tannins. Medium long finish, silky acidity and soft tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Maybe not a great bottle, but certainly in good condition - nice experience.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 87.

1995 Brumont, Bouscasse Vieilles Vignes, Madiran, France: 90

Optic: /Dark ruby/medium purple, bright.
Bouquet: Dark cool fruit, phenolic touch.
Taste: Medium body, soft dark fruit, bit thin in the middle, nice acidity and tannins. Medium long finish, soft cool fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Full taste without being heavy. Drink now because it will not get any better?

Optic: Brilliant light ruby, nice tears.
Bouquet: Interesting phenolic and animal touch, bit cool.
Taste: Medium body, fruity acidity, spicy red fruit, soft tannins, good balance. Medium long finish, silky fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Elegant wine of interest.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 1 for overall = total score of 91.

2000 Font Caude, L'Esprit de Font Caude, Languedoc, France: 90

Optic: Dark purple, fat tears.
Bouquet: Quite clean, soft and warm dark fruit.
Taste: Full body, soft dark fruit, low acidity, smooth tannins, on the border of being a bit hot. Long finish, slightly bitter dark fruit in the aftertaste.
Overall: Certainly a fine wine, may be a bit flat.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 90.

1990 Rampolla, Sammarco, IGT, Tuscany, Italy: 92

Optic: Dark ruby, bright, fine tears, bit of sediment.
Bouquet: Dark fruit with hints of herbs and spices.
Taste: Medium full body, clean dark fruit, strong acidity, velvety tannins. Medium long finish, slightly bitter fruity aftertaste. may be a bit hot.
Overall: First sips are impressive, after one glass you hesitate, after a second you look for something else or quit. Score is based on first impression.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 92.

1989 Corino, Vigna Giachini, Barolo, Piedmont, Italy: 92

Optic: Bright garnet, dense tears, heavy sediment.
Bouquet: Mature, multilayered, complex.
Taste: Medium full body, mature red fruit, soft acidity, well balanced, delicate silky tannins. Long finish with rather soft fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Excellent bottle again.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 92.

1990 Beaucastel, Chateauneuf du Pape rouge, Chateauneuf du Pape, Rhône, France: 92

Optic: Medium ruby with some brick, very brilliant, heavy floating sediment.
Bouquet: Bit overripe, lovage, soy sauce, kitchen herbs, animal hint, phenolic touch.
Taste: Medium full body, soft dark fruit, silky acidity, soft velvety tannins, very good balance. Long finish, velvety and a bit sweet persistent tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: First bottle for me of this wine showing signs of over maturity.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 92.

Optic: Medium garnet, bright, fat tears.
Bouquet: Touch of PN or Grenache, some red fruit, bit fat.
Taste: Plump body, like a fat 1997 Conte d'Or, medium acidity, soft tannins. Long finish, bit fat.
Overall: New world Pinot Noir, plump and fat. 2003 is not my Pinot Noir vintage at least now. May be in 10 years?
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 88.

Optic: Dark purple, bright, some sediment.
Bouquet: Barnyard, heavy phenolic note - not a fault but intense.
Taste: Medium full body, soft dark fruit, liquorice, soft acidity, velvety tannins. Long finish, persistent velvety tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Low in alcohol and full in smell and taste.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 91.

Optic: Dark ruby, brilliant, dense tears.
Bouquet: Soft and velvety, dark berries.
Taste: Full to medium body, smooth dark fruit, soft cool velvety tannins, good acidity, well balanced. Long finish, persistent tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Smooth and elegant.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 92.

2002 Niepoort, Redoma, Douro Tinto, Portugal: 90

Optic: Dark purple, very dense tears, tints the glass.
Bouquet: Intense dark fruit, Vintage Port like, bit pungent phenolic.
Taste: Full body, intense dark fruit, vivid acidity, velvety tannins, bit rustic. Long finish, dark fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: You get what you would expect from a "classic" dry red Douro wine.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 90.

1993 Triebaumer, Oberer Wald, Blaufränkisch, Burgenland, Austria: 91

Optic: Medium ruby, bright.
Bouquet: Cool silky, low fruit, herbs and spices, animal hint.
Taste: Slim body, cool silky, low in fruit, nice acidity, silky tannins, elegant. Very long finish, silky tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Mature Blaufränkisch, very nice.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 91.

1997 Pegau, Reservée, Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge, Rhone, France: 91

Optic: Brilliant garnet/light ruby, very fat tears, no sediment.
Bouquet: Gently pungent phenolic, some dark red fruit.
Taste: Plump body, dense dark red fruit, rather low in acidity, soft silky resinous tannins, well balanced. Quite long finish, smoky mouth impregnating tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Bit fat, yet quite good for this vintage.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 91.
