2004 Quinta de la Rosa, Reserva, Douro Tinto, Portugal: 92

Optic: Dark purple, bright, fat tears.
Bouquet: Very clean dark fruit, silky, not very expressive.
Taste: Medium to full body, very intense sweet dark fruit, crisp acidity, cool silky tannins, good balance. Medium to long finish, sweet dark fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: The degree of fruitiness is amazing.
Score: 50 + 5 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 92.

2003 Eckhart, IXION, Mittelburgenland, Austria: 87

Optic: Light purple, clear, high viscosity.
Bouquet: Dark red fruit with phenolic hint, resinous.
Taste: Light body, soft dark red fruit, crisp acidity, slightly phenolic taint. Medium long finish, bit coarse red fruity acid tannins in the finish.
Overall: Is made from organic grown grapes without sulfur dioxide - therefore of interest.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 87.

1995 Brumont, Montus XL, Madiran, France: 93

Optic: Bright purple, dense tears.
Bouquet: Hint of barnyard, silky touch, chocolate, fine toast, fine dark intense fruit (not primary), silky.
Taste: Medium body, silky dark red fruit, good acidity, silky tannins, good balance. Long aftertaste, silky persistent tannins.
Overall: Surprisingly elegant for a Madiran.

1995 Taupenot-Merme, Charmes-Chambertin, Grand Cru, Burgundy, France: 90

Optic: Medium garnet.
Bouquet: Not yet fully mature nose, soft earthy and smoked notes.
Taste: Medium body, soft red fruit, soft silky tannins. Medium long finish with palate coating soft tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Nice bottle.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 90.

1997 Jacques Prieur, Echézeaux, Grand Cru, Burgundy, France: 91

Optic: Transparent light ruby wth dark core.
Bouquet: Classic delicate red Burgundy nose.
Taste: Medium body, bit plump but clean red fruit, soft acidity, velvety but not silky tannins, good balance. Very long finish with quite persistent smoky tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Excellent bottle for this not so top vintage.

1994 Montrose, St. Estephe, Bordeaux, France: 87

Optic: Dark bright ruby, fat tears.
Bouquet: Phenolic dark fruit with resinous and barnyard notes, bordering off flavors.
Taste: Medium body, dark red fruit, quite thin in the middle with some metallic touch in the acidity (tad too much of isovaleric acidity?), bit rustic tannins. Medium long finish, bit coarse dark fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: This wine seems to be already a bit on the downhill side.

2000 Simon Maye & Fils, Syrah, Chamoson, Valis, Switzerland: 90

Optic: Medium purple, heavy tartaric sediment.
Bouquet: Some oak, sweet dark fruit, young, perfumed, bit alcoholic.
Taste: Medium body, sound acidity, nice dark red fruit, soft velvety tannins, good balance. Medium long finish, acid fruity velvety tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Certainly the first bottle of red wine from Switzerland I like enough to be interested in another one.

1996 Mission Hill, Merlot, Private Reserve, Barrel Aged, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada: 84

Optic: Light ruby, bright, medium viscosity.
Bouquet: Bit austere low fruit nose, hint of mushrooms.
Taste: Medium to slim body, thin acidity, slightly bitter smooth tannins, low fruit, hint of mushrooms. Short finish, acid velvety tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Besides photographs one or more bottles of wine are the for me most interesting souvenirs from vacations - this makes this rather mediocre bottle of wine quite interesting.

1996 Chapoutier, Les Granits, Saint-Joseph, Rhone, France: 86

Optic: Golden color with amber touch, brilliant, good viscosity.
Bouquet: Bit oxidized and tired, no fruit, hint of nuts.
Taste: Medium body, no fruit, low acidity, soft tannins, quite dry. Taste not up to optic, some soft tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: The best what can be said of this wine is that it has no Botrytis note, else a bit boring.

Optic: Black purple, fat tears, tints the glass.
Bouquet: Primary dark fruit in the nose.
Taste: Full body, cool, dark dense fruit, velvety tannins. Long finish, intense fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Good example for a "dry" Vintage Port.

1995 Seavey, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California, USA: 93

Optic: Dark bright ruby, dense tears.
Bouquet: Soft toast, hint of brett, dark fruit.
Taste: Full body, clean dark fruit, nice acidity and soft tannins, well balanced. Long finish, some black pepper in the aftertaste.
Overall: Great bottle, satisfying.

Optic: Dark bright purple, good tears.
Bouquet: Clean velvety dark fruit.
Taste: Medium body, soft but very intense dark fruit, good acidity, soft tannins. Long finish, soft tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Great bottle again.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 93.

1990 Corino, Vigna Giachini, Barolo, Piedmont, Italy: 91

Optic: Medium ruby, bright, fat tears.
Bouquet: Soft resinous red fruity nose.
Taste: Medium body, elegant red fruit, silky acidity, silky tannins. Medium finish, silky tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Not the best bottle of this wine I had so far, but quite acceptable.

1990 Beaucastel, Chateauneuf du Pape rouge, Chateauneuf du Pape, Rhône, France: 90

Optic: Light ruby with brick rim, brilliant, very heavy sediment.
Bouquet: Very mature, herbs, low level brett far below annoyance threshold.
Taste: Medium body, soft dark red fruit, soft acidity, soft velvety tannins, on the border of being elegant. Medium long finish, slightly sweet persistent tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Again a bottle with signs of over maturity.

Optic: Bright ruby, fat tears.
Bouquet: Dark red fruit, clean - no hint of sweetness.
Taste: Medium body, dark red fruit, decent sweetness, clean, low acidity, velvety tannins. Remarkable tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Excellent wine with dessert.

Optic: Light ruby, brilliant.
Bouquet: Clean red fruit.
Taste: Medium body, soft red fruit, soft tannins, velvety tannins, good balance. Medium long finish, soft red fruit and silky tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Nice and easy going wine.

1998 Aldo Conterno, Bussia Soprana, Barolo, Piedmont, Italy: 91

Optic: Dark garnet, bright.
Bouquet: Low fruit, hint of bit pungent white truffles.
Taste: Medium body, low fruit, good acidity, tannins with grip, some power. Long finish, persistent tannins dominate the aftertaste.
Overall: Offers good drinking especially with food.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 91.

Optic: Medium ruby, dark core, light rim.
Bouquet: Mature, hints of liquorice and kitchen herbs.
Taste: Medium body, soft dark fruit, hint of liquorice, soft acidty, soft tannins, good balance. Nice finish, velvety dark fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Classic mature Pauillac.

Optic: Medium ruby, very fat tears.
Bouquet: Soft dark red fruit, hint of toast.
Taste: Medium body, soft dark red fruit, soft acidity, silky tannins, good balance. Long finish, persistent soft tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Nice young Blaufränkisch.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 92.

Optic: : Dark ruby with black core.
Bouquet: Clean, hint of dark fruit.
Taste: Plump body, soft dark fruit, masked acidity, bit rustic velvety tannins. Medium long finish, some dark fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Not complex, nice drinking. Despite 14,5% alc. vol. not hot - but I like the old style with lower alcohol certainly better.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 88.

N.V. Bonneau, Les Rouliers, Vin de Table, Chateauneuf du Pape, Rhone, France: 87

Optic: Light ruby, fat tears.
Bouquet: Clean soft red dark fruit.
Taste: Medium body, some red fruit fruit, some acidity, some tannins, good balance. Medium long finish, soft sweet tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Nice match with simple food, goes even with rather intense cheese.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 87.
