Verkostungsnotiz Mai 2008:
2002 Pöckl, Pinot Noir,
Neusiedlersee, Burgenland, Austria: 88 |
Medium ruby, black core, bright.
Black cherries, toast. Medium to full body, low in acidity, slightly bitter
dark red fruit, toast, velvety tannins. International Pinot Noir with too
much toast - not much of interest here. |
2003 La Rasina, Rosso di Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy: 88 |
Bright ruby, light rim. Very soft
dark fruit in the nose. Medium to slim body despite 14% alc, dark fruit,
strong acidity behind, slightly rustic tannins, overall good balance. Medium
long aftertaste, slightly hot. Seemed better on release. |
2005 Quinta do Vale Meao, Vinho Tinto, Douro, Portugal: 93 |
Dark purple, dense tears, tints
the glass. Dark fruit in the nose, velvety oak. Full body, clean and bit
primary dark fruit, silky acidity, velvety oaky tannins, good balance. Very
long finish, velvety tannins and dark fruit in the aftertaste. |
2003 Quinta do Crasto, Reserva Old Vines, Douro Tinto, Portugal: 93 |
Dark purple, fat tears, tints the
glass. Clean silky dark fruit. Medium full body, silky dark fruit, good
acidity, silky cool tannins. Long finish, clean aftertaste. Got a bit
elegance here |
2004 Prunotto, Barolo, Piemonte, Italy: 88 |
Dark garnet, bright. Austere nose
with dark olives. Medium body, some red fruit, good acidity, harsh tannins,
austere. Long finish, persistent tannins. Seems a rather traditional young
Barolo, therefore nice. |
1999 Radikon, Ribolla Gialllo, Collio, Italy: 89 |
Not Amfora but a standard bottling
- whatever standard means by Gravner. Amber, a bit dusty, fine tears. Clean
nose, floral. Medium body, bit oxidized (no sulphur is used here), low
acidity, very dry. Medium long finish, clean aftertaste, tannins bit palate
impregnating. This wine has gained with the years - or my palate has changed
(quite possible, as I have lately a bias towards non sulphured wines). |
1997 Banfi, Poggio alle Mura, Brunello, Tuscany, Italy: 89 |
Light garnet, clear. Mature nose,
soft red fruit, dried herbs, lovage. Slim body, mature red fruit, silky
acidity and tannins. Medium long finish, seems already a bit tired. |
2003 Mastrojanni, Brunello, Tuscany, Italy: 93 |
Dark garnet, brilliant, fat tears.
Very clean delicate nose after dark red berries and some oak, velvety. Medium
body, delicate red fruit, well integrated acidity, well balanced. Long
finish, persistent velvety tannins in the aftertaste, warm feeling. |
2003 Capanna, Brunello, Tuscany, Italy: 91 |
Medium
garnet, brilliant. Delicate soft nose after dark red berries.
Plump body, delicate red fruit, well integrated acidity and very intense and
persistent velvety tannins in the aftertaste. |
2003 Sancarlo, Brunello, Tuscany, Italy: 85 |
Light garnet, clear. Rather
neutral nose with oxidative hints. Medium body, some red fruit, acid, bit
coarse tannins. Short finish. Not very convincing. |
2003 La Poderina, Brunello, Tuscany, Italy: 93 |
Dark ruby, clear, tints the glass.
Black fruit in the nose, black ink. Rather full body, intense dark fruit,
well integrated but good acidity, silky tannins with some help from the cask.
Long finish, intense dark fruity aftertaste, yet bit austere. |
2003 Baricci, Brunello, Tuscany, Italy: 92 |
Dark garnet, clear. Delicate nose
after dark berries, bit overripe. Plump body, soft dark red berries, touch
raisins, soft acidity, velvety tannins, hint of oak. Long finish, clean
velvety soft aftertaste. For a Brunello a bit soft, but tastes fine. |
2003 Il Poggione, Brunello, Tuscany, Italy: 88 |
Dark garnet, clear. Clean dark red
fruit, bit resinous. Medium body, slim dark red fruit, good acidity, good
tannins. Medium long finish, bit acid bitter green tannins in the aftertaste.
Not this great. |
2003 San Giorgio, Ugolforte, Brunello, Tuscany, Italy: 87 |
Light garnet, brilliant. Slightly
oxidized delicate red fruity nose. Slim body, strong acidty, some red fruit,
short finish. Simple wine for a simple meal. |
2004 Boscarelli, Nocio di Boscarelli, Nobile di Montepulciano, Tuscany,
Italy: 92 |
Dark ruby, clear. Sweet dark
fruity nose with vanilla. Full body, sweet black fruit, strong acidity, bit
hard tannins - not yet well balanced. Long finish, hard tannins in the
aftertaste. |
2003 Piccolomini, Pianrosso, Brunello, Tuscany, Italy: 93 |
Light purple, fat tears, light
rim. Delicate dark fruit in the nose, bit phenolic but clean. Medium to full
body, delicate dark red fruit, good balance, crisp After one day in the opened
bottle: Somewhat disintegrated and not so attractive as before. |
2003 Riecine, La Gioia, Sangiovese, IGT Tuscany, Italy: 92 |
Dark ruby, fat tears. Dark
berries, clean, velvety. Medium to full body, dark red fruit, crisp silky
acidity, velvety tannins. Good finish, persistent velvety tannins in the
aftertaste. Really nice wine. |
